Update: Prepping The Jog

We’re well under way of prepping for the production of The Jog, my thesis film for Columbia College Chicago’s Creative Producing program. We’re roughly one month before physical production and we’ve got a lot to do, but it CAN BE DONE!

Casting

We began casting for the roles of Marty and Karen this week. We brought in Casey Vickers (caseyvickers.com) as our casting director, and she’s done wonderfully. Karen is an easy demographic to fill, and we’ve had a lot of readings for her. Marty is proving to be a little more difficult. We’ve seen a few actors for the role, but really only have one candidate so far. We’re hoping to see some more before we make our choice.

Locations

There are four locations we need to make this work; the running path, the house, a store interior/exterior, and a bus stop. We’ve found the perfect spot for the running sequences on an abandoned train line. Now we need to convince the Park and Forest Department to let us shoot there… The house was an easier find. My fellow creative producer, and friend, Javi Delgado (@JaviDarko2k) has access to the perfect house location. We’re still looking for a store and bus stop. I’m also still in talks with CTA about getting a permit to shoot at the stop.

Branding

Loretta Robinson (lorettamaydesign.com), my girlfriend and amazing graphic designer, is handling all the branding for The Jog. She and I have been working together to push out new designs to promote our crowdfunding campaign and are working on designs for stickers, posters, tshirts… all the swag that we’re offering in our giveaways. She’s been a tremendous help in marketing The Jog to the general public. You can see the branding by liking our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/thejogfilm

Production

A few weeks ago our director of photography, Claire Bruce (@ClaireEBruce), and I did some tests running the C300 on the Steadicam Zephyr; we’re feeling pretty confident that the rigging will allow us to get the shots we’re looking for. Aaron (aaronmmills.com) and I are also working on locking down storyboards and a shot list; we’re also meeting with our production designer, Jorie, to lock in the visuals.

Funding

Screen Shot 2013-10-14 at 6.42.36 AM1238153_191847937665357_440037800_nThe last part of this update is dedicated to our funding. We are currently funding through Kickstarter and could use everyone’s help. We’re asking for $5000, which seems like a lot, but that money goes quick, and we’ll need every penny to make The Jog look its absolute best. Any donations you can offer would be greatly appreciated, every dollar helps. But, if you can’t donate, please share our campaign page with everyone you know! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/845702169/the-jog. We’re smack dab in the “mid-campaign slump” and any help would be awesome!

Stay tuned for more updates from The Jog. We’d love to hear what you guys think, so send us a message at thejog@widenmedia.com. And be sure to like our facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/thejogfilm) and share our kickstarter with your friends and family!

Filming went amazingly well on Saturday. It sucks that the weather was too bad Sunday. Looking forward to getting back at it with everyone.
