Meet the Crew of The Jog, Part I

A film is only a good as the people who make it. And the crew behind The Jog (facebook.com/thejogfilm)are some very talented filmmakers. As a way to get to know the people helping make my thesis film, I’ve asked them a series of questions. Their answers are enlightening and entertaining. In this post we learn about our Director of Photography and our Production Designer.

I hope to bring a fresh perspective, creating a world that enhances the story and allows the audience to connect in a personal way with our characters.

What drew you to the project? Favorite part of the project?
What drew me to the project is its simplistic depth. The story upon first glance is not as simple as it may seem, but with the careful intertwining of dramatic and comedic elements it provides a tempo and rhythm to the narrative that allows the audience time to connect on a deeper level to the characters and elements within the story.

What experience do you have?
Having had extensive experience within the camera department both Operating and Assisting, I honed in on my craft and have moved into the ranks as a Cinematographer; having shot numerous short films and currently am in pre production on 3 upcoming independent films for the spring 2014 production season.

What excites you about the film?
I am most excited to collaborate with a new and creative group of people that are all very driven towards achieving the best possible product while telling the story in a way that audiences can relate to.

Bio: I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago reading, playing in the mud, and exploring outside. I’m not much different now, except I’m responsible enough to watch other people’s children. I graduated Columbia College Chicago with a BA in Theatre Technology, specifically props and costumes.

What do you hope to bring, creatively, to The Jog?
I hope to create the world of the film well enough that the viewer doesn’t realize it’s a set. If everything is right for the character, then his actions are intrinsically understood by the audience.

How do you see the film coming out?
I see it being successful. The script is strong and the team seems solid.

What drew you to the project? Favorite part of the project?
The vulnerability and strength of the main character and the humoristic approach to a culturally debilitating issue.

What experience do you have?
I have an undergrad in theatre technology, but work art in films regularly. (NOTE) Jorie has worked as the production designer for music videos with Kevin Otterness and has done some stellar work.

What excites you about the film?
The story. A well-structured script provides the ability to discover a character based on context clues and events.
